Adopted K-5 Science Curriculum Modules
The following modules were adopted (Spring 2002) as the basis for our Lansing School District's elementary science education program. Implementation began with the 2002-2003 school year. Click here for more details of the recommendation and adoption process. Additional information about many of these science units can be found by using the links on our "Science Unit Resources" web page.
The table below displays the following information for each of our twenty-two adopted K-5 elementary science units:
Module Publisher: e.g., Galaxy, EDC, BSCS, Battle Creek, NSRC
Module Title: e.g., Testing Materials, Water Planet, Investigating Ecosystems
Print Materials Format: TE = Teacher Edition bound paperback, TNB = Teacher Edition in 3-ring notebook, TSB = Teacher Edition spiral bound, SE = Student Edition bound paperback, SJ = Student Journal (for Battle Creek modules, printed and distributed by our LSD Copy Center), SNB = Student Notebook (for EDC modules, pages copied and distributed by our LSD Copy Center)
Benchmarks: the number of Michigan Curriculum Framework (2000) "using" science knowledge benchmarks associated with each science unit; clicking anywhere in a science unit's benchmarks number box will display a pop-up window listing the MCF (2000) "using" science knowledge benchmarks associated with that science unit; clicking on the number itself will open the benchmarks display in the current window (use this latter option if your computer is configured to block pop-up windows)
For information about Michigan Curriculum Framework (2000) "constructing" and "reflecting" on science knowledge benchmarks and the part they play in our district's science education program, click here for elementary school grades K-4 or click here for middle school grades 5-7.
