The following list indicates (in reverse chronological order) the latest
additions and changes to our "ElSci" (Elementary Science) web site:

A link to an
EDLINE
home page for LSD Science (K-12) has been added to the "Useful Links" listing on the left-hand side of
the primary ElSci web pages. Although this page serves currently simply
as a "place holder," eventually, we hope to have this be our primary site for
all science-related information for our district.

and Conference Center have been added to the "Useful Links" listing on the left-hand side of

11/27/2006 Update
MS-Word documents listing the Michigan Curriculum Framework (2000)
"constructing" and "reflecting" on science knowledge benchmarks for
both the
elementary school
and the middle school
portions of our science education program have been updated as per the
September 12, 2006, vote of our
Elementary Science Steering Committee (ESSC) in anticipation of expected
changes to the
Michigan Curriculum Framework for science by the spring of 2007.
Links to these documents can be found both on the "Adopted Curriculum Modules for Elementary School
Science" web page and the ESSC
Information web page.

10/18/2006 Update
The "Adopted Curriculum Modules for Elementary School
Science" page has been updated to include the following information for
each of our 22 K-5 science units: module publisher, module title, print
materials format, and number of MCF (2000) "using" science knowledge
benchmarks associated with the science unit. In addition, a link from
each unit's benchmarks number listing displays a pop-up window with the
complete text of the MCF (2000) "using" benchmarks associated with that
science unit.

This page, added to our
science workshops listings, provides a
description of our upcoming "science and technology" PD session, to be held
the morning of November 7th at Gunnisonville Elementary School. This
workshop will provide an opportunity for LSD K-12 staff to share ideas for
more effectively using our recently obtained HOBO data loggers and Vernier
Go!Temp probes.

ESSC links and files specific to the 2005-2006 school year have been archived. (Click

A listing with links to information about "Data Loggers and Probeware" has
been added to the "Useful Links" listing on the left-hand side of the primary
ElSci web pages. Of particular interest for LSD staff are likely to be
the links for LSD PD and use of HOBO data loggers
and Vernier's 25th anniversary
giveaway of a free Go!Temp probe to each K-12 school in the USA.

on-line for science unit "Kc",
which includes links to information about Painted Lady caterpillars and
butterflies.

"Science Unit Resources" pages are now
on-line for science units "3d" and "4d."
The latter includes a link to David Brigham's "Michigan
Animals EcoQuest," which he presented at this year's
Michigan Science Teachers Association Conference, held in Lansing in March
2006. Mr. Brigham teaches fourth grade at
Attwood Elementary School.

Update Our ESSC-sponsored
"Science Notebooks" PD series is being extended to include three more half-day
PD sessions during the 2006 Spring Semester. A web page has been created
with information about the new 2006 Spring series,
and the Fall 2005 sessions web page
has been updated as well.

A link for our LSD LASER Team work has been
added to the "Useful Links" listing on the left-hand side of the primary ElSci
web pages. With funding from the Dow Chemical Company and
Hewlett-Packard, the Lansing School District sent a team of five
administrators and teachers to a five-day LASER Institute in Washington DC
during mid-July 2005 to begin developing a five-year strategic plan for our
district's science education program. This link provides access to
information about the LASER program and resources to support our continuing
development and implementation of our five-year plan.

Discussions about "wind socks" in our
PI-CRUST Project PLCK and
PLC2 science study groups (relative to the "Ka" and "2a" weather units), and
about "glaciers" in our PLC4 group (relative to the "4a: Earth Changes"
science unit), have led to the creation of "Wind
Sock" and "Glacier Photos" web
pages. Links to the "Wind Sock"
