Our district's Office of Curriculum, Assessment, and Professional Development (CA&PD), in cooperation with the Elementary Science Steering Committee (ESSC), plans to offer a variety of workshops and in-service sessions during the 2002-2003 school year.   These workshops are designed to assist teachers in implementing our new elementary science curriculum.   Each after-school workshop begins at 4:15 PM and runs through 6:00 PM.   Refreshments are provided prior to the start of each workshop beginning at 3:45 PM.   The dates and locations for these workshops and in-service sessions are listed below.   In some cases, links to flyers announcing upcoming workshops or to downloadable versions of agendas or handouts are included.   For more details about any of these workshops and in-service sessions, call the CA&PD Office at 325-7594 or speak with the Elementary Science Teacher Specialist (ESTS) for your area.

  1. Tuesday,   August 20, 2002   (Summer Academy)
     
  2. Mid-September 2002:   Working with First-Session Materials

    Each of these workshop sessions will focus on a single grade-level's first-session unit (e.g., features of the teacher edition, student edition, and "kit" materials and activities).   Opportunity will be provided for teachers to discuss questions about the units' content and activities.

    A "lite dinner" will be provided before each of these sessions (3:45-4:15 PM).

      First-Session Units for Grades 3-5
        Tuesday, September 10, 2002   4:15-6:00 PM
          +   Third Grade at Cavanaugh
          +   Fourth Grade at Allen Street
          +   Fifth Grade at Willow
      First-Session Units for Grades K-2

     
  3. Mid-October 2002:   Working with Second-Quarter Materials for Grades 2-5*

    Each of these workshop sessions will focus on a single grade-level's second-quarter unit (e.g., features of the teacher edition, student edition, and "kit" materials and activities).   Opportunity will be provided for teachers to discuss questions about the units' content and activities.

    A "lite dinner" will be provided before each of these sessions (3:45-4:15 PM).

    * Workshop sessions dealing with second-session materials for kindergarten and first grade will be held in November and December.   More details follow below.

      Second-Quarter Units for Grades 3 and 5
        Wednesday, October 16, 2002   4:15-6:00 PM

      Second-Quarter Units for Grades 2 and 4
        Thursday, October 17, 2002   4:15-6:00 PM

  6.   NOTE:   Due to reduced budgets, teachers will NOT be paid for the time they participate in the rest of this school year's introductions to elementary science unit workshops.
